carpe noctem

Carpe Noctem, or “seize the night”, is a regional theme camp which began production in 2008 for Flipside, Austin’s local burn event.
Our camp currently features:
- Public shade: Domus Noctem, a 32′ diameter, 4-frequency geodesic dome, skinned with tarp
- Crystal clear sound system featuring consistent camp and community DJs
- A small array of intelligent lighting fixtures
- A 4.5′ diameter, 3-frequency geodesic disco sphere
- High quality (sanded, stained and finished) PlayaTech furniture to rest your weary legs
- An 8′ long and 4′ high magnetic poetry panel with hundreds of words
- The original Flipside airborne lighting rig: follow the UFO to Carpe Noctem
- A fully stocked bar to whet your whistle, as well as unique camp drinks (bring your own cup!)
- Posters, banners, and other interactive and visual art created by Carpe Noctem artists
- Private chill space: A 16 foot diameter, thermally protected HexaYurt
- More private shade: ProtoDome, a 16 foot diameter, 2-frequency geodesic dome, skinned with tarp
Our plans for Flipside 2010 include but are not limited to:
- Expanded bar and public alcohol offering
- Fully waterproofing our camp to run in the rain
- Two new thermal hexayurts
- Better organization of musical performances, including increased involvement from the community
- Additional DMX lighting fixture acquisition and integration
- Increased levels of camper art contributions
- Camp shower infrastructure
