Congrats Carpe Noctem Bad Idea Think Tank 2011!

It's inspiring to watch and see how things have a natural tendency to evolve. This was Carpe's fourth year at Flipside and despite our yearly effort to keep infrastructure down and effort within reason, we packed another 24' box truck, 14' flatbed trailer, and 14' enclosed trailer to near capacity and pulled it out to Apache Pass for this year's Flipside. This year saw the birth of "The Grid", a private power grid run by Carpe which brought 45kW of reliable and affordable power 24/7 to over six camps near the effigy area. We built a custom bridge for foot traffic between the creek and the effigy that we felt held up and functioned well. Our bar expanded this year and homebrew was served and ran through quickly. Our DJs, artists, and bar staff new and old had a great time entertaining our guests, and the whole camp enjoyed volunteering in teams at various shifts, from Ice to Parking, Rangers to Sound Marshals, and DAFT to Pyro to name a few.

Not all projects attempted this year were successful, but we intend to keep working on all of them. The UFO was tragically short a major component and would have required too much detailed work in the field to get going. Our VOIP project's server suffered heat issues and despite extensive testing at home, we couldn't get it to cooperate in the field due to the hot weather. The lighting installation within the dome went through some logistical changes and lost sync with the touch panel control project, but all of these are things we intend to address in the future. We engage in these projects for fun, and it's possibly not such a bad thing to shoot so high that occasionally falling short is an understood risk.

Many of us found our challenges within the event this year as we believe is a frequent if not yearly experience for most of us - but we came out on the other side happy with how things worked out, the new friends we made, and the experiences we created and shared with you, the community.

As always, if the community, volunteer structure, or LLC have any comments or feedback relating to Carpe Noctem or our campers, the camp leads can be reached via the contact page. Infinite thanks to the entire community for coming together and making the event possible once again. We love and appreciate every one and recognize the insane amount of time and effort contributed to enable us all to express ourselves.

The podcast has already been updated with one recording taken live from the Carpe Dome, with more on the way - stay tuned and let us keep you movin' in the off-season.
